It’s been almost seven years since the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, GTA 5, was released and many fans are eager for what’s next. However, three passionate fans took matters into their own hands and made a stunning trailer showcasing what a remastered Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas could look like in Unreal Engine.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the most well-known video game franchises of all time. In fact, a recent survey about the most popular gaming franchises had GTA sitting in at the number 4 spot under some other massive franchises like Super Mario and Call of Duty. In a similar vein, the community and player base surrounding Grand Theft Auto is incredibly expansive and very passionate about the franchise.
The GTA community often creates clever or funny concepts surrounding the series, whether it be from past games or more modern ones. One example of this is a recent GTA 6 map concept that combines all the major cities in the franchise’s history into one continent. However, some GTA fan creations are truly something special. To be more specific, a YouTube channel by the name of ArcadiaSquad recently released a fan-made trailer showcasing what GTA: San Andreas could look like remastered in Unreal Engine 4 and it’s extremely impressive.
The description of the trailer gives some context for the team behind the trailer. Three friends from across Latin America, Santiago Ibarra, Fabian Álvarez, and Juan David Góngora, apparently spent over a year rebuilding the entire map of San Andreas in Unreal Engine. The trailer showcases various locations from San Andreas, populated by NPCs walking around and cars driving through the city streets. While a GTA game has never officially been remade, plenty of GTA games have been ported to newer consoles like the upcoming GTA 5 port on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
While there are a few noticeable texture and model issues scattered around the trailer, it’s incredibly impressive that a trailer of this quality was made by three people. Unfortunately, the trailer is not representative of a game that fans will ever get to play, as the team behind the trailer do not intend to make the contents of the trailer playable. It seems GTA fans might have to wait quite awhile for the next brand new GTA experience, as industry analyst reports seem to think that GTA 6 is still years away.
