Starting on October 31, aliens decided they were tired to sneaking into Grand Theft Auto Online and mounted their full-scale invasion. In Los Santos alone there are over a dozen UFOs hovering above the city with their tractor beams activated. These UFOs will no longer disappear when players get near. They remain floating without moving in a threatening manner. They do, at the very least, still cause an EMP-like effect that turns off nearby vehicles, preventing players from approaching.

The one other interesting aspect of the UFO invasion for Grand Theft Auto Online’s Halloween event is how it ties to day and night. The UFOs will only appear during Grand Theft Auto Online’s night cycle, which is fitting for Halloween in a way. Further, the early portion of the night will have an odd orange-red hue in the background. Over time, this hue will turn greenish. No explanation is given for the night’s sky changing color, but it’s probably just a fun Halloween aesthetic.
The night’s sky changing color is just one of many mysteries surrounding Grand Theft Auto Online’s Halloween event. The biggest question is whether or not this is the end of Rockstar’s plans, or whether there’s more to come before Halloween ends. It would be odd for the UFOs to invade, only to leave before they reveal their intentions.
Grand Theft Auto Online fans are, understandably, speculating wildly. This is one of the biggest in-game events that Rockstar has ever done in Grand Theft Auto Online, so players are curious what that could imply. Some are even saying it’s the start of an event leading to the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6, but that seems excessively hopeful.
Even if the UFO’s placement above the skies of Los Santos is the end of the event, and there’s nothing else to come, it’s been worth it. Halloween doesn’t necessarily demand a massive, world-changing event. UFOs, slashers, and haunted vehicles are more than enough for many Grand Theft Auto Online players. That said, here’s hoping there’s a spooky surprise left to discover.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S support coming in March 2022.
