Grand Theft Auto 6 has been the subject of countless rumors and speculation for nearly a decade by now, not least because it is the sequel to the most commercially successful entertainment product ever. Following much ado, Rockstar finally confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development back in February. But half a year later, the industry giant has yet to share any concrete details on the project - the game doesn’t even have an official name just yet.

The map made by Reddit user jackie630 was inspired by over a dozen cities, municipalities, and landmarks from North Carolina. Its recognizable inspirations range from the town of Murphy in the west to the island village of Hatteras in the east, which were renamed to “Point Derby” and “Hurricane,” respectively. Likewise, at the center of the map lies Hornet, inspired by the state’s largest city, Charlotte. Other major urban centers encompassed by this fan-made vision for GTA 6 include Bull City (Durham), Oaksburgh (Raleigh), and Gateway (Greensboro). The author dubbed the concept “North Cackalacky,” referencing North Carolina’s actual nickname. Overall, the end result is extremely detailed-oriented, whereas the art style could very well pass for an official asset from the game that promises to set a new creative benchmark for the industry.

This isn’t the first such concept set on the East Coast, either; a few months ago, another avid series aficionado designed a comparably high-effort Grand Theft Auto 6 Florida map concept. Given how a number of previous reports suggested Vice City might be making a return in GTA 6, a setting that’s at least partially based on Florida still seems more likely than one inspired by North Carolina.

With that said, the next game could even end up featuring both the Sunshine State and North Cackalacky - eventually. Namely, a credible insider report from July claimed that Rockstar is planning to add multiple cities to GTA 6 post-launch. What’s less clear is whether such large-scale content updates would only be reserved for the game’s online mode, or whether Rockstar would break with that precedent set by GTA 5.
