Insider, Tez2, has taken to Twitter to share what little information on Grand Theft Auto 6 they can get from inside of Rockstar’s notoriously tight lips. The latest report even contradicts an earlier statement that GTA 6 is a long way off, due to it being early in development, with players being tempered to expect it within the PS5 and Xbox Series X’s lifecycle, but not anywhere near the launch of the new systems.

The new report, however, claims that GTA 6 is at least halfway finished, if not more, meaning that the game may actually be closer to release than previously alluded. This still doesn’t necessarily mean that the title should be expected this holiday season, or even next, as Tez2, the source of this information, made it a point to remember that it took Red Dead Redemption 2 almost 8 years to finish development. So, in the insider’s own words, GTA 6’s base release may be closer than expected, but it may still not be available by this holiday season.
However, a longer development time is probably a good thing, as allowing developers to take this kind of time has allowed Rockstar to reduce crunch over the years. So for the sake of the developers currently working on GTA 6, the earlier report of the game being in early stages could be a way to keep from having to commit to a timeline that requires the team to start putting in 100 hour work weeks. Either way, this information still means that GTA 6 has likely been in development long than many realized, and it’s well on its way to completion.
Of course, this information is all speculation and the word of an insider, as opposed to an official announcement, so fans may want to take it with a grain of salt. In fact, members of the GTA cast and crew have suggested before that players should ignore rumors, as news on the game continues to leak from every possible corner. It’s entirely possible that these rumors could simply be speculation or hopeful wishing from those with a glimpse at the inside of development, rather than certifiable facts.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
