The thing to keep in mind is that a road bump for Grand Theft Auto isn’t something too serious, not really. Grand Theft Auto 5 has shattered record after record, and so many years afterward, it continues to top sales chart after sales chat. The problem is that, as many look forward to the future, Grand Theft Auto has dropped quite a few balls in that lead-up. Grand Theft Auto 6 has been confirmed, but it feels like a distraction.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Takes The Fall, GTA 5 Sails On By
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy seemed like a bonafide success—as remasters of classic games: Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. But it launched to terrible reviews, with many considering the original games (that were temporarily removed for a lot of folks) to be much better than these releases. When it comes to remastering a game, that’s about the worst criticism it can get. Now, Rockstar wasn’t the developer on it, but it did overview it and it is related to Rockstar. Even though the GTA Trilogy is getting patches and updates, it was a rare crash and burn for Rockstar.
Now, GTA Online has been set loose as a standalone release and Grand Theft Auto 5 has had its native release on PS5 and Xbox Series X. It is so strange that Grand Theft Auto 5, the most profitable entertainment product of all time, has been released on the latest generation of consoles, and there seem to be no waves. It didn’t get a huge backlash like GTA Trilogy or even compared to its YouTub trailer that got a ton of dislikes, but it’s a Grand Theft Auto release that has come and gone quietly and incredibly quickly. It’s no doubt good for the franchise, but it doesn’t have the footprint many expected in it.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Reveal and Announcement
In all of this, Rockstar Games came out and confirmed the next Grand Theft Auto game was in development. This could theoretically mean a named entry, like the aforementioned Vice City and San Andreas, but after such a wait, everyone knows it’s Grand Theft Auto 6. Everyone is excited for Grand Theft Auto 6. But there wasn’t much fanfare—there wasn’t a trailer, there wasn’t a teaser, there wasn’t even a logo, and there wasn’t even a name. Rockstar Games just came out and said it.
That’s not a bad thing, but it is odd to announce one of the most anticipated, discussed, and speculated-on games in the entire industry by simply saying, “hey, this is a thing.” It’s all Rockstar needs to do to really keep GTA in good graces after a bad launch and an oddly quiet launch, but as to what that means for Grand Theft Auto 6’s development proper remains up in the air.
At the end of the day, it is a step forward for a game many have discussed but never seen. More and more news will eventually come of it, and all those eyes are on it. Hopefully, it’s takes the “best foot forward” approach from hereon.
