Fans have had to wait to for many years for a new entry in the Gran Turismo series, as GT Sport released back in 2017. GT Sport also had a big focus on online gameplay, however GT7 is confirmed to have a full campaign, as it brings back GT Simulation Mode from past games. Sony has just released a new trailer that details how GT7 will make use of PS5’s power and tech.

The video features Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of developer Polyphony Digital, who talks about how PS5 has allowed the team to reach an intangible level of realism in Gran Turismo 7. He first mentions that the adaptive triggers of the Dualsense controller are used to recreate the feel of the breaks. Though ray tracing is only available during replays and in Scapes mode, he makes note of the difference it makes in GT7, and reiterates that the game will be able to use PS5’ power to run at 4K with HDR while targeting 60 fps.
All of the footage shown from GT7 looks excellent, and it is great to see that more games are taking advantage of the unique features of the Dualsense controller. However, Gran Turismo 7 has faced its fair share of controversies. Back when it was first announced, many fans believed that GT7 will a PS5 exclusive title, allowing it to make full use of the console’s power. Gran Turismo 7 was later confirmed to be a cross-gen game, which naturally caused a lot of confusion.
In addition, it was announced that the campaign of GT7 will require a constant internet connection. Regardless of these concerns, it seems like GT7 has a lot of hype surrounding its release, and games in this series always sell exceptionally well.
2022 is shaping up to be a remarkable year for Sony’s exclusive line-up, from both first-party developers as well as third-party partners. Horizon Forbidden West and GT7 both have set release dates, while God of War Ragnarok is also scheduled to launch next year. Forspoken as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo are console exclusives as of now, and when combined with notable multi-platform releases, PS5 owners should have plenty to look forward to in 2022.
Gran Turismo 7 is scheduled to release on March 4, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
